We offer a personalised approach to dry eye treatment rather than a one-size-fits-all treatment. Every patient undergoes a comprehensive dry eye assessment using the state-of-the-art MYAH diagnostic system to identify the underlying cause of their symptoms – this can then be shown to allow you to fully understand the reason for your discomfort. Many other practices rely on Slit Lamp Assessment only which is not comprehensive enough to manage dry eye treatment long term. Treatment plans are tailored to each individual and may include IPL therapy alongside other advanced treatments, lifestyle advice, and ongoing review to ensure the best possible long-term results.
Most patients require an initial course of four IPL sessions, typically spaced 2–4 weeks apart. This treatment schedule is designed to gradually reduce inflammation, improve meibomian gland function, and stabilise the tear film. Yasmin or Samia will confirm the most appropriate treatment plan following your assessment.
Dry eye requires maintenance treatments to ensure the most long-term comfort and quality of life. Many patients benefit from top-up IPL sessions approximately every 6 months, depending on symptom severity, lifestyle factors, and underlying gland health. Some patients may need treatment more frequently, while others maintain good symptom control for longer periods.
Yes. IPL is a well-established and clinically proven treatment for dry eye disease and has been safely used in medical settings for many years. When performed by trained clinicians using medical-grade equipment, IPL is extremely safe. At the Dry Eye Treatment Centre we have chosen to adopt a superior IPL system that we feel is safer than many used by other practices. Our equipment uses cartridge heads that need to be replaced at regular intervals. These cartridges contain protective shields that eliminate the possible safety issues present with other systems that require a specific thickness of gel to be placed on the area. Side effects are generally mild and temporary, such as slight redness or warmth of the skin, which usually settles quickly.
IPL is suitable for almost all patients with Dry Eye, particularly those with meibomian gland dysfunction or inflammatory dry eye. However, it may not be appropriate for a few. Suitability depends on factors such as skin type, medical history, medications, and the underlying cause of your dry eye. A full assessment will be carried out before treatment to ensure IPL is safe and appropriate for you.
All IPL treatments are performed by Yasmin or Samia, our fully trained and experienced eye care professionals who specialise in dry eye management. Your safety and comfort are our priority, and treatments are delivered in line with UK clinical standards and regulations.
